"You're not just different from every other man, Clark. You're more powerful than any other man in history. You're unique in all the world. Extraordinary. Not just any man and more than just a man. A super-man...Superman."
- Jonathan Kent to Clark
Superman (Born as Kal-El, raised as Clark Kent) is the last survivor of the now-destroyed planet Krypton and therefore the last of the Kryptonian race. He is the biological son of Jor-El and Lara and the adopted son of Martha Kent and Jonathan Kent, who raised him as their son on their farm in Smallville, Kansas after they rescued him from his ship when it crashed near the young couple while they were on a hiking trip. Clark spent his childhood and teenage years mostly in a state of lonliness and isolation from the rest of his peers and was often bullied and physically abused at school.
After stopping the Dheronian assault led by Tyrell, assuming his "Clark Kent disguise", and maintaining an apartment at The Metropolis Hotel; he now works as a reporter and writer for The Daily Planet in Metropolis under the employ of Perry White and alongside Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane.
History[]
Birth & Escape from Krypton[]
Born as Kal-El on the planet Krypton to scientist Jor-El and his wife Lara, Kal-El was born sometime before the the day the planet exploded, around the time of the undetected Dheronian attack. Jor-El and a few other scientists had detected fluctuations in Krypton's core and began making preparations to ensure his son's survivial in the event that Krypton was destroyed. He began cunstructing a ship capable of interstellar travel and downloaded its molecular structure with all of Krypton's knowlege so that Kal-El would have what he needed when he came of age. He chose Earth as his son's new home, as its young yellow sun and weak G1 gravity would make Kal-El strong, nearly indestructible, and most important of all, alive when all the rest of Krypton would be dead.
As Krypton reached its end, Jor-El and Lara wraped Kal-El in Kryptonian cloth and prepared him for his journey. Lara was worried that he would be alone, without a family, and outcasted, regardless of his powers. With their final farewell and love, they placed Kal-El in the ship and sealed him inside. Kal-El's ship took off just as Krypton exploded, the vast energies that sealed Krypton's fate concealed the ship from Dheronian detectors, making the ship appear as a mteorite.
The Kents & Smallville[]
The ship traveled light-years to finally make its way to Earth. Jonathan and Martha Kent were hiking when the ship came into the atomosphere. The ship's entery created a sonic boom and crashed into the mountain near where they were hiking, seting much of the woods on fire. Martha heard the infant Kal-El cries and followed them to the wreck. They found the infant and Jonathan made his way through the fire to get to the child. He also took a piece of the ship to see if anyone could identify its contents. They made their way with Kal-El away from the wreck just as it became unstable and exploded.
By nightfall, Martha and Jonathan had set up a tent and made camp. Martha was cradeling the baby Kal-El while Jonathan was using a portable radio. A few military choppers hovered over the wreck and Martha thought about signaling them down, but Jonathan stopped her as he feared what the US authorities would do to the child if they told them the truth. While in their jeep on their way back to town, Martha had mostly talked Jonathan into telling the police the truth about the baby, untill Kal-El picked up and bent a crowbar with his bare hands, much to The Kent's amazement. Jonathan came up with the idea of raising Kal-El as their own, they would say that Martha's layabout sister in Chicago, who never visited them, had sent them her baby to rais for her. Martha agreed to the idea, as her sister was never around to say otherwise.
Raising him as their nephew, but loving him as their son, The Kents took Kal-El in and gave him the name Clark Kent. As Clark grew, he developed amazing powers under Earth's yellow sun. The Kents decided to hold off on telling Clark the truth about how they found him untill he was old enough to handle the information. As a child, Clark a;ways wondered who and what he was, what he was doing on Earth, and were he came from. The Kents told him that he was special and that his powers were gifts, but that he also had to be careful in hiding them from the world.
The Truth & Teenage Years[]
Around the time Clark started Smallville public school, The Kents told Clark about how they found him and showed him the shard of the crash. Clark was constantly bullied and physically abused at pre-school and called a "freak", "coward", and "chicken". He felt alone because he didn't know how to pretend to fit in. No matter what he did, the people around him could sense that he was different. He flew for the first time when he was a kid and looking up at a bird flying overhead, and thought how amazing that must have felt, he
then noticed that he was right next to the bird. At first he thought that it had flown down to him, untill he looked down and discovered that he was about fifty feet off the ground, much to his fright.
When Clark was a teenager in high school, Jonathan talked to Clark about his hope for a normal life for Clark without him revealing his powers. But he also talked about how Clark could use his powers to help and protect people. At the same time, Martha was using Clark's Kryptonian cloth to make his Superman suit. While in the kitchen with his mother, Clark examined the suit for the first time and wondered what the "S" symbol meant and why he couldn't just wear a mask. She explained that when people see how powerful he is, that they would be afraid and that a mask would only add to that fear. She explained that they would would need to see his face and see that there is no evil in him, to see the gentleness and decency in him and know that they will have nothing to fear. She also said that he would haft to wear a mask the rest of the time. It is during this conversation that Jonathan first calls Clark Superman.
Personality[]
Jonathan and Martha endowed Clark with the good morals and values that he holds today. As a kid, he was always very selfless and would often tell his parents what he wanted to do for them as apose to what he wanted for himself. He was very envious and somewhat self-loathing as a kid and would always wish for a normal life where no body would sense that he was different. He still holds these feelings, though to a much lesser degree as he has begun to accept himself as a Kryptonian.
As a young adult on his way to Metropolis, Clark was alone and without purpose and didn't know what he wanted to do with his life dispite his vast options. When the Dheronian fleet attacked Metropolis and the rest of the world, Clark mostly stood by and watched without showing himself and only responding by destroying the Dheronian droids when they attacked pedestrians. After the massage from Tyrell was braodcasted and one of the droids trying to kill Jimmy, Clark grew very angry and made the most important decision of his life in an instant; revealed himself to the world and to Tyrell, sacrificing his chance for a normal life, became Superman, and engaging Tyrell headlong in battle.
Powers & Abilities[]
Superman possesses superhuman powers nourished by the frequency of the light and internal radiation of Earth's young yellow sun. As a Kryptonian; his cells are veritable organic solar batteries that absorb and metabolize the energy of Earth's yellow sun. His powers developed and grew more powerful to a degree as Clark matured.
- Superhuman Strength - Enhanced strength much greater than that of a human and even most superhumans, making him "more powerful than a locomotive," is one of Superman's signature powers and has often been described as chief among his other abilities. While not infinite, depictions of the upper limit of how much weight he can lift have ranged from being able to do the work of several laborers in half the time, crush diamonds in his grasp, lift objects hundreds of times his own weight including any sized vehicle over his head, bend and/or break steel with his bare hands, lifting mountains, and all the way up to in the Silver Age and Modern Age where he is seen moving entire planets. This makes him arguably the strongest superhero in the DC Universe. After being saturated with yellow solar energy in All-Star Superman, his strength was tested as exceeding the force of 200 quintillion tons (or 2x1020 tons, in scientific notation, i.e., two hundred billion billion tons) he held this much with one hand and he even said he feels like he can pick up more, enough to pull the Earth away from the sun. As of the New 52 reboot, his strength now exceeds 5.972 sextillion metric tons. Explanations include being adapted to the heavier gravity of Krypton, and his muscles using the power of the solar energy which fuels all his abilities. Whilst in direct yellow sunlight, his strength can be augmented to limitless and incalculable levels. He has strength necessary to shatter entire worlds.
- Superhuman Speed - Superman can move and fly so fast that he appears as a nearly-invisible blur. He flew from Metropolis to Hollywood, Russia, Tibet, Egypt, Africa, and back to the United States all within the same hour. His perceptions and brain activity are accelerated which allows him to percieve the world in slow-motion while he moves at superhuman speeds (which he percieves as normal speed).
- Superhuman Senses - Superman's senses are inhuman and strengthened by solar radiation. His heightened hearing allows him to hear far-off and/or faint sounds. He can hear conversations taking place in other rooms. His eyesight allows him to see energy wavelengths.
- Telescopic Vision - Superman can extend the perception of his vision to see things taking place in countries on the other side of the world; he saw the Dheronian drills digging into Hollywood, Russia, Tibet, Egypt, and Africa while he was still in Metropolis.
- Microscopic Vision -He can see at the atomic/molecular level. When he uses this ability, the whites of his eyes turn black and his pupils turn pale.
- Eidetic Memory - Because of the solar enhancements to his brain cells, Superman possesses eidetic memory and can recall and perform accurate chemical equations.
- Superhuman Stamina - Superman battled Tyrell head on without tire. He possesses great natural body durability as well as stamina even without his invulnerability due to his body not producing fatigue toxins in the same manner as Humans.
- Invulnerability - Superman is nearly indestructible and is impervious to harm by Earthly weapons; including extreme trauma and impacts. The key to his invulnerability lies in his bio electric field which his cells deposit after absorbing and digesting the rays of Earth's yellow sun combines with his superhumanly strong molecular structure. He is unaffected by heat and fire. His bones, internal organs, muscle tissue, skin, nails, and hair are stronger than titanium while still maintaining their soft human-like textures and natural functions. His nails can dig into and scratch metal. He withstood the full force of Parasite's strike; knocking him into a truck and denting the steel with his impact and remaining unharmed (albeit with a bloodied nose).
- Healing Factor - The absorption process of solar radiation into Superman's body produces excessive amounts of energy which allows Superman's cells to regenerate extremely rapidly and with greater potency than that of humans. Superman fully healed within moments from his neck cut from Tyrell's bladed tail. He is immune to all natural ailments and human illnesses.
- Heat Vision - Superman can burn objects with his gaze by sommoning the solar forces within his body that give him his powers and projecting them through the lenses of his eyes in the form of infra-red thermal energy wavelengths. He can control the intensity of this ability; ranging from simply and harmlessly heating liquids in a test tube, expelling heat flashes capable of seering hair, and firing powerful and destructive blast of optic laser-like energy beams from his eyes capable of destroying and burning metal. This ability is closelly linked to a degree to the level and activity of testosterone in Clark's body and can be triggered through thoughts of sexuality and other forms of sexual arousal and even an emotional shock of a romantic nature. Though this effect can be easily controled with time and training.
- X-Ray Vision - Superman can see x-ray wavelengths that allow him to see through walls.
- Flight - Superman can control his personal gravity and fly as a result of Earth's weak gravity and his Kryptonian physiology's permanent adaption to Krypton's mega-gravity which allows him to develop an anti gravity neural network. As a kid, he could levitate about fifty feet off the ground. As an adult, Clark can fly out of Earth's atmosphere and into space.
Weaknesses[]
- Red Suns: Exposure to the frequency of light and internal radiation from a red sun, real or synthetic, takes away Superman's powers.
- Dheronian Metal: Superman's invulnerable skin can be wounded by a sharp blade made from Dheronian metal, which is nearly as impervious as Kryptonian metal.
- Black Holes: Black holes can consume him completely.
- Mega-Gravity: Superman can be pinned down and held in place by the force of several gravities at least equivalent to that of Krypton.
- Parasite: Parasite's can feed on Superman's health and abilities if he touched his skin, rendering Superman weak, powerless, and ill.
